WA 1500 Match…

The name of this centre fire match is derived from the words ‘World Association’, under whose rules the match is shot and the total possible score of 1500 from the 150 shots that constitute the match.

The firearms used are either revolvers or semi automatic pistols in .32 to .38/.357 calibre.  Competitors shoot on single targets.  All courses of fire are timed.  Imperial measurements are used.

You will note fom the description of the course of fire that there are similarities to the Service match.  Attributes to both Service Pistol and WA 1500 matches are:

  • Use of barricades for support
  • The 50 yard and 25 yard stages are the same or similar for both matches
  • The shooters use various shooting positions, i.e. standing, sitting, kneeling, etc.
  • The types of centre fire firearms used
  • The use of holsters.  Competitors must hold proficiency cards

Immediate noticeable differences:

  • The inclusion of a 15 yard firing line
  • The sequence in which stages are shot are in order of distance as shown in the course of fire set out below

Course of fire:

  1. 12 shots over 7 yards in 20 seconds. Standing without support
  2. 12 Shots over 15 yards in 20 seconds. Standing without support
  3. 18 Shots over 25 yards in 90 seconds
    • 6 shots sitting
    • 6 shots standing left hand side of the barricade
    • 6 shots standing right hand side of the barricade
  4. 24 Shots over 50 yards in 2 minutes & 45 seconds
    • 6 shots sitting
    • 6 shots prone
    • 6 shots standing left hand side of the barricade
    • 6 shots standing right hanf side of the barricade
  5. 24 Shots over 25 yards
    • 12 shots in 35 seconds – unsupported
    • 12 shots in 35 seconds – unsupported
  6. 12 Shots over 7 yards in 20 seconds
    • Unsupported one or two handed
  7. 18 Shots over 25 yards in 90 seconds
    • 6 shots kneeling
    • 6 shots standing left hand side of the barricade
    • 6 shots standing right hand side of the barricade
  8. 24 Shots over 50 yards in 2 minutes & 45 seconds
    • 6 shots sitting
    • 6 shots prone
    • 6 shots standing left hand side of the barricade
    • 6 shots standing right hand side of the barricade
  9. 6 Shots over 25 yards in 12 seconds. Standing without support

Note:

The match is divided into separate categories for revolver or semi automatic pistols shot using both hands, single or double action as allowed.  Some restrictions on trigger pull, sight radius etc. apply.
